21 Christmas Crafts to Make with Candy Canes

A (age 14) had seen one of her favorite YouTubers sipping "lemonade" through a candy cane, and was keen to give it a try herself.  I figured it wouldn't work with regular candy canes, thinking that it would need something slightly more porous, like a peppermint candy stick (non-affiliate link).  But, I let her pick up an assortment of candy canes, in all flavors and sizes, as well as a couple of candy sticks to experiment with, anyway.

Just as I thought, the candy stick worked well as a straw - though I can't say much for the mixing of peppermint and lemon flavors.  I thought orange juice tasted better...

...but the acid from the lemon juice was better for dissolving the candy, and opening up the holes in the straw.  At any rate, after sampling a couple of lemons (just knead the lemon or orange by hand, before cutting an "X" in the peel, and inserting the candy stick to drink through) and oranges with peppermint sticks and candy canes (which didn't work, but didn't stop us from trying), we might be done with candy cane eating for the season.

Fortunately, there are a number of crafts perfect for using up our left-over candy canes.  Actually, many of the ones linked below are meant to be eaten, and truthfully most of them are various forms of candy cane reindeer.

Okay, all of them, with the exception of number 21, are candy cane reindeer.  Really, once I got started linking them, I just couldn't stop.

1. Candy Cane Reindeer - a simple craft using a candy cane, a brown pipe-cleaner, a red pom-pom, and a pair of googly eyes.

2. Candy Cane Reindeer - another, super cute, version using two candy canes, brown yarn, googly eyes, and a red pom-pom.

3. Candy Cane Reindeer - similar to the one above, but using brown paper instead of yarn and glitter instead of a pom-pom (and this one has ears).

4.  Candy Cane Reindeer - this one is a whole sew and glue felt job, with candy cane antlers.

5.  Candy Cane Reindeer - an edible version.

6. Candy Cane Reindeer - also edible, but slightly different from the one above.

7. Candy Cane Reindeer Boxes - the candy canes stick out of cleverly crafted gift boxes (I'm thinking something similar, but even simpler could be done with a small paper bag).

8. Candy Cane Reindeer (and mustache) - so funny.

9. Candy Cane Reindeer - with two candy canes and a pipe cleaner.

10. 3-D Candy Cane Reindeer - using 5 candy canes taped together.

11. Candy Cane Reindeer - edible, with pretzel antlers, from Taste of Home.

12. Reindeer Candy Cane Pudding Cups - I kid you not!

13. Candy Cane Reindeer - with a downloadable face.

14. Rudolph Cookie Bites - Dipped Oreo Cookies, and mini candy canes.

15. Candy Cane Reindeer - à la Martha Stewart (taking it up a level).

16. Rudolph Sugar Cookies - with M&M eyes, and a "why not to add the candy canes before baking"

17. Rudolph Candy Cane Holders - a felt project with template and instructions.

18. Rudolph Treat Bags - I knew I'd find one with a paper bag!

19. Crochet Candy Cane Reindeer - the candy cane goes inside.

20. 3-D Candy Cane Reindeer - this time made with a Swiss roll body, peanut butter cup head, pretzel legs, and of course - candy cane antlers.

21. Candy Cane Sleigh - all those reindeer are going to need something to pull.

So many reindeer to pick from! How will one choose. I think the sleigh is perfect for the kids friends at Lego Club and Church!

Huh, I'm trying to imagine what it would taste like doing that. Now I'm kind of curious.

Lots of fun reindeer versions! Except I didn't see the mustache reindeer. It was the same link as the box reindeer.

I thought that the candy cane reindeer with pipecleaners is easy enough to make as a quick gift. Now I am curious to try orange juice with peppermint straws :)
